ANAHEIM, Calif.—Willdan Group, Inc. announced recently that it strengthened its electrical engineering capabilities with its acquisition of Alternative Power Generation, Inc. (APG), an electrical engineering and construction management firm, in a stock purchase that closed on March 3.
According to a release from Willdan, APG adds significant expertise in data center substation design, as well as construction management, microgrids, EV charging stations, and renewable energy projects for the commercial sector. This expertise is said to strengthen Willdan’s position in electrical engineering and enhance its capabilities in the energy transition.
In 2024, APG is reported to have generated approximately $37 million in revenue. Transaction terms were not disclosed, the release stated.
“APG’s deep electrical engineering expertise and commercial relationships will bolster our existing capabilities,” said Willdan CEO Mike Bieber, in the release. “Together, we are expanding our solutions to data centers and other commercial electric loads, enhancing our ability to serve the evolving energy landscape. By adding APG’s electrical engineering to our grid analytics software, energy, and economic policy experts, energy engineers, and facility optimization teams, we can support a more resilient energy future.”
Willdan is a nationwide provider of professional technical and consulting services to utilities, government agencies, and private industry. The company’s service offerings span a broad set of complementary disciplines that include electric grid, energy efficiency and sustainability, engineering and planning, and municipal financial consulting.
Alternative Power Generation provides customized electric power solutions for EV charging, solar, AI data centers, microgrids, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and substations. The company offers consulting, design, engineering, procurement, and construction management.
