A new collaborative partnership aims to enhance the technology and engineering expertise available to OMIC R&D’s members.

NEEDHAM, Mass.—CAD/CAM software developer Open Mind Technologies has joined the Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center, Research and Development (OMIC R&D) as a new member, creating a partnership to optimize CAD/CAM strategies for improved manufacturing processes.

According to a release from Open Mind Technologies, the new partnership pairs Open Mind’s “high-performance CAD/CAM software strategies” with OMIC R&D’s experience in “optimizing CAD/CAM solutions that significantly improve programming and manufacturing processes.”

The Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center, Research and Development, founded in 2017, combines the efforts of industry and academic partners to develop advanced metals manufacturing technologies and processes. Its facility provides a collaborative environment that enables teams to develop new tools, techniques, and technologies to address near-term manufacturing challenges through applied research and advanced technical training.

According to Open Mind Technologies, its joining the Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center-R&D creates “an exceptional partnership.” By bringing together Open Mind’s highly effective CAD/CAM software strategies with the rich experience and proficiency of OMIC R&D in enhancing CAD/CAM software, the collaboration creates new opportunities for innovative solutions.

Open Mind’s hyperMILL® software is reported to offer a comprehensive range of 2.5D, 3D, 5-axis milling, and turning strategies that enhance automated programming and optimize production processes. It also includes a module for advanced toolpath planning for directed energy deposition (DED) additive manufacturing, a burgeoning technology that is a key focus at OMIC.

“Open Mind is pleased to provide hyperMILL® software technology and engineering competence to OMIC R&D to enhance machine performance, and collaborate on member and industry projects,” said Open Mind Technologies USA, Inc., Managing Director Alan Levine, in a statement. “This collaborative aligns well with high-end applications.”

Open Mind Technologies develops CAD/CAM software with “innovative and unique features” that reportedly provide “significantly higher performance in both programming and machining.” Its modular hyperMILL software provides state-of-the-art CAM technologies on its own CAD platform—from 2.5D, 3D, and 5-axis machining, to turning strategies and solutions for additive manufacturing, high speed cutting (HSC).and high performance cutting (HPC machining).

“Open Mind’s commitment to innovation and its recognized excellence in CAD/CAM technologies make them an invaluable addition to our membership,” said OMIC R&D Business Development Manager Josh Koch, in the release. “This partnership not only enhances our network but also enriches the resources and expertise available to our partners.”

According to the release, “Open Mind and OMIC R&D are committed to pushing the boundaries of manufacturing technology and look forward to a productive collaboration that promises to bring innovative solutions to the forefront of the industry.”
