Versatility, productivity, and precision are hallmarks of the new technology, according to Hypertherm Associates.

HANOVER, N.H.—A new plasma cutting system introduced by Hypertherm Associates is reported to provide fabricators with excellent cut quality for thicker metal, yielding cleaner, sharper, and more consistent edge quality.

The Hypertherm® XPR460® plasma cutting system is the newest addition to the company’s XPR line with X-Definition® technology. By delivering excellent part-to-part consistency over the life of the consumable, it is said to ensure quality “from the first cut to the last.”

“This advanced plasma system pays you back with maximum versatility, productivity, and precision,” Hypertherm said in a release.

The XPR460’s versatility is said to be evident in its ability to provide superior cutting for mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. It features Argon-assist technology for extended piercing capability and edge-starting on thick mild steel and stainless steel. Its advanced process control mechanisms prioritize plate protection and consumable efficiency, minimizing downtime and maximizing output, the company said.

“We are very excited to bring this highly anticipated product to the market,” said Hypertherm Associates Marketing Project Manager Jorge Santana, in the release. “Customers will be pleased to see the precision in the cut quality and the wide range of capabilities for the XPR460. Between the range of thicknesses and materials it can cut, it is the most versatile cutting technology available.”

In addition to high cut quality, the XPR460 is reported to provide superior performance in thickness capacity and cutting speed. These enhanced thickness and speed capabilities enable the XPR460 to set a new standard for precision and productivity, the company said in the release.

According to Hypertherm, the system boosts productivity with cutting speeds increased by an average of 12 percent through 50mm (2 inches) in mild steel. Capable of piercing up to 64mm (2.5 inches) in mild steel, the XPR460 is “future-enabled for smart factory integration and connectivity.” It also offers a 12 percent increase in consumable life versus the Hypertherm HPR400XD®, the company said.

SureCut™ technology is said to optimize Hypertherm plasma performance by automatically embedding advanced cutting capabilities. The system’s optimization for productivity and cost-efficiency includes its ability to “maintain exceptional cut quality on 45-degree bevels and ensure uniform hole aesthetics throughout,” the company said.

The XPR460 has four gas-connect console options, offering high flexibility and control over the cutting process. Each console is integrated with the CNC interface, ensuring ease of use and high productivity. CorePlus, VWI, and OptiMix gas-connect consoles enable improved marking applications, enhancing the versatility and efficiency of the system, according to Hypertherm Associates.

Hypertherm Associates is a prominent U.S. based manufacturer of industrial cutting systems and software. The company said its products are used by companies across the globe to build ships, airplanes, and railcars; construct steel buildings; fabricate heavy equipment; and erect wind turbines, among other uses.
