Tech Etch’s new shielding gaskets are UL-94 V-0 certified and RoHS compliant.
PLYMOUTH, Mass.—Tech Etch recently introduced two new additions to its line of Fabric Over Foam gaskets for EMI/RFI shielding that are reported to provide superior performance while adhering to stringent environmental standards.
The UL-94 V-0 Certified 2400 Series and the 2500 Series Fabric Over Foam gaskets provide high attenuation shielding and are “proudly designed and manufactured in the United States,” Tech Etch said in a release.
Headquartered in the Greater Boston metropolitan area, Tech Etch is a manufacturer of precision-engineered thin metal components, EMI/RFI shielding products, and flexible printed circuits. The company partners with major global customers in industries that have complex, precise designs and demanding regulatory requirements. These industries include aerospace and defense, alternative energy, medical, telecommunications, and electronics, the company said.
The 2500 Series Fabric Over Foam gaskets are UL-94 V-0 certified and halogen-free, and are available in more than 150 profiles and sizes, according to Tech Etch. The gaskets are described as having a low compression set that balances “adaptability with structural integrity,” the company’s website stated. They feature an electrically conductive, nickel-plated copper nylon ripstop fabric over an open-cell core polyurethane gasket.
This design is said to ensure optimal electrical characteristics for high-attenuation shielding, suiting them for a wide range of shielding applications. The gaskets are also compliant with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals) standards.
Like the 2500 Series, the 2400 Series Fabric Over Foam gaskets are UL-94 V-0 certified and RoHS compliant. They are tested to ASTM D 3574 standards and are reported to exhibit a compression set of less than 2.6 percent.
By incorporating nickel plating over a highly conductive copper-plated substrate, the gaskets provide “the excellent electrical characteristics necessary for high attenuation shielding,” according to a specifications sheet on the Tech Etch website. “Bonding the conductive substrate to the foam core assures self-termination of gaskets provided in standard or cut lengths,” the company added.
