The system is said to help welding teams to access heavy steel beams more safely.

KANARRAVILLE, Utah—Attempting to access all sides of a heavy steel beam for welding can be a time-consuming endeavor that can threaten team members’ safety. Although various beam rotators have emerged, they have failed to address practical needs like beam placement, removal, and secure positioning, according to a release from BZI.

But a new beam rotation system developed by BZI®’s R&D group, Innovatech®, is said to present a new approach to solving these challenges. BZI and Innovatech’s proprietary Beam Champ® 30 beam-rotating system is designed to enhance welding teams’ access to heavy steel beams and improve their safety. It does so by optimizing weld positioning and reducing the risks associated with beam handling, BZI’s release stated.

According to BZI, the patented system enables welding teams to access all sides of a beam more safely and efficiently. The Beam Champ 30 cradles the beam on a chain and rotates it within two or more Beam Champ units.

“This system offers several advantages over previous rotators, including a larger opening for beam placement and removal. Additionally, its Vertical Jaw Arm enables effortless insertion and removal, while the Support Arm holds the beam securely in place during welding or configuration,” the release stated.

Customers report experiencing a 20 percent gain in productivity since using Beam Champ in their operation, according to BZI.

“At BZI and Innovatech, we are passionate about pushing the boundaries of innovation and increasing safety in construction,” said Worth Bistline, engineering manager at Innovatech, in the release. “Beam Champ 30 is just one testament to our dedication to creating practical solutions for real-world needs.”

The BZI group of companies operates through three primary organizations that work to develop technology innovations for the construction, steel, and material handling and welding industries. Building Zone Industries, LLC, erects large steel structures; BZI Steel, LLC specializes in steel fabrication; and Innovatech, LLC, specializes in designing, engineering, and manufacturing innovative construction equipment and processes to enhance efficiency and safety on the job.

The group of companies serves industries such as data centers; warehouse and distribution; EV, microchip, and battery manufacturing; and food and beverages.
