The manufacturing facility in greater Los Angeles is reportedly capable of producing an average of two satellites per week on a single-shift schedule.

LOS ANGELES—International satellite manufacturer Aerospacelab, Inc. opened the doors to its manufacturing facility in Torrance, California recently, positioning the company to address the needs of its growing U.S. customer base.

The start-of-the-art facility is reportedly capable of producing, on average, two satellites per week on a single-shift schedule. It has 35,000 square feet of advanced high-bay and cleanroom environments that are “equipped with the latest technology and sustainable practices,” according to a company release.

Aerospacelab stated it will begin assembly, integration, and test of its satellite system for Xona Space Systems in the new facility during the fourth quarter of 2024.

“Now more than ever, there is a need for mission-ready satellite systems to meet today’s complex global challenges,” said Tina Ghataore, CEO of Aerospacelab, Inc., in the release. “The Aerospacelab facility in greater Los Angeles will boost the local aerospace industry and meet the demands of the U.S. government and military. We will not only ramp up satellite bus production but will be doing full builds and satellite operations for U.S. customers, while building our own units in-house. It’s quite remarkable what this will open doors to.”

Aerospacelab builds satellite subsystems and platforms, providing end-to-end solutions and integrating and testing diverse mission payloads. Its expansion is designed to scale and support a wide range of space manufacturing needs within the United States. With its Versatile Satellite Platform (VSP) family at its core, the company said it can tailor solutions for custom missions, scaling up or down using a vertically integrated approach for reliability and agility.

Aerospacelab established its U.S. presence in Palo Alto, California in 2023, and also has international branches in Belgium, France, and Switzerland. The company stated it is expanding its operational footprint due to rapid growth, fueled by commercial customers in the United States and supporting the requirements across various U.S. government institutions.

Aerospacelab also recently broke ground on its Megafactory in Belgium. Expected to be the world’s third largest satellite manufacturing facility, it is scheduled to begin operations in 2026, the company said.
