HICKSVILLE, N.Y.—Designatronics, Inc., was awarded a new design patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a coupling device that is said to eliminate many of the issues associated with traditional fastening methods, the company said in a release.

The patent, titled “Coupling Device” (U.S. patent number US D1,022,683 S), was issued on April 16, 2024. By taking a proactive approach to protect and build upon Designatronics’ unique Fairloc hub design, the patented coupling device is said to strengthen the company’s position as an innovator in mechanical design for power transmission and motion control components.

Through a business model that includes four brands, Designatronics provides integrated design, engineering, and manufacturing. The company said it “manages its brands to develop comprehensive mechanical and electromechanical solutions, optimizing value in the global markets that are served.”

Designatronics’ four brands include SDP/SI (Stock Drive Products/Sterling Instrument); QTC Metric Gears; Quality Bearings & Components (QBC); and Wybur Tools. The company provides mechanical and electromechanical engineered services and products through SDP/SI, QBC, and QTC Metric Gears. Wybur Tools is a manufacturer of long-lasting carbide and HSS burs.

Stock Drive Products/Sterling Instrument is an ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D registered provider of mechanical-based engineering and manufacturing services. The brand offers customized design and specializes in high-quality machined parts, molded components, synchronous belt drives, precision gears and subassemblies. QTC Metric Gears supplies North America with metric gears and gear products. Quality Bearings & Components is a supplier of bearings and other mechanical components.
